Transforming my Life,

One Day at a Time

Hi, Welcome to my Blog!

TingOutLoud is created with the goal of sharing my health knowledge from a perceptive of a pharmacist. And my personal journey of hacking the code of sustainable healthy weight management and the quest for eternal youth.

After years of yoyo dieting with my weight going up and down, I have finally figure out what’s works for me to maintain a healthy lifestyle and at a weight that I’m happy with.

I was a Chubby Kid

Food -Loving Family

Both of my parents are very busy working to support the family and their only way of showing love is through food. We don’t have much to spend on but my parents always make sure that the we have enough to eat and they indulge us in this area as much as possible.

My extended family is a big and jovial group of folks who loves to eat, drink and be merry. Celebrating birthdays and holidays is not complete without plenty of our favourite food. Research has found that the family’s eating habits have a great influence on a child’s food preference. This is very true in my case. I was brought up to love the same food that my family loves.

In addition, I have a very good appetite since I could remember. And ice-cream and potato chips are among those of my favourite food. Hence, it’s not hard to wonder why I was such a chubby kid. I was overweight and was actually made to join the tuff club for overweight children in my primary school.

Agnst of Self-Conscious Teen

Low Self-Esteem

As I step into my teens, I started being more self-conscious and being teased about being fat and ugly really lower my self-esteem.

This set the path into years of serial dieting with my weight and my emotional health going up and down like the stock market. The feeling of guilt, frustration and self-hatred is not something I want to experience again or wished it on anyone. And I know I’m not alone in this agony and there are many others having similar experience and pain.

Medication and Quick Fixes are not the Answer

There is no one pill to fix it all.

I have educated myself about health by reading and researching. I have even deliberately opt to study pharmacy so that I can be a healthcare professional with more health knowledge than the average person. But to my surprise and disappointment, most of the knowledge I have learned as a pharmacist do not really make us healthier.

Our current healthcare system is more about disease management rather than keeping us healthy and prevention of diseases. Although this is changing with more focus on a holistic approach to health, all change is slow and not enough is being done.

It’s really our responsibility to take care of our own health by equipping ourselves with the right knowledge and to apply them in our life to prevent common lifestyle diseases such as high pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.

Even as a pharmacist, I have to study outside of the textbook to learn how to lead a healthier lifestyle. In my search for answers, I realised that medication is never going to be my solution to a healthier or slimmer body.

My Breakthrough

My breakthrough came at a point in my life that I was so fed up and demoralised over my yoyoing of my weight. I told myself that I need to stop dieting and focus instead on my physical and emotional health

I finally realise that I can’t depend on quick and easy fixes for my weight issues. Going into a very restrictive diet is just going to put me into a starve and binge mode again.

My Goal is Long-Term Healthy Weight Management

Thinking long term and with the mindset on sustainability has help me made wiser decision with regards to all aspect of my life not just weight management but also on my physical and mental health.

I invite you to join me on this quest for a healthier, slimmer and younger body.
